Not everyone goes off to college after they graduate high school, yet so many jobs require college degrees. If you’re feeling discouraged and hoping for a chance to earn more than what a job at a fast food restaurant can give you, don’t worry. There are plenty of other jobs out there that only require a high school diploma. You have at least five possibilities you can check into when you’re ready to start making an income.
Oil Refinery Operator
You can make well over $20 an hour as an oil refinery operator. As long as you have a high school diploma and can handle long days and heavy lifting, you qualify for this job. Someone afraid of heights wouldn’t handle the job well, as you may have to get on a ladder and work at higher altitudes. As long as you’re fine with heights and meet the other requirements, the job could be yours.
Rural Carrier Associate
Handling mail and working at the post office as a rural carrier associate or postmaster does not require a college degree. With a high school diploma and valid driver’s license, you can take the job. You do have to pass an examination and prove you qualify, but not having a college degree won’t stop you from getting the job.
Power Plant Operator
Power plants are all over the U.S, so chances are high you can find a location to start work. You don’t have to have a college degree to get accepted, but some companies do prefer if you have related knowledge or experience. If you don’t yet have experience you can start as a trainee.
Elevator Repair Technician
You can get certified as an elevator repair technician without having a college degree. Get your diploma, find a certification class and you’ll be all set to start. Advanced companies look for people with several years experience in repair, but you can start as a trainee or in a low-level company and still earn the big money.
Personal Trainer
Get certified as a personal trainer and you can work for a company or yourself. Plenty of people are willing to work with a trainer to get help getting in shape. As a trainer, you must be passionate about health and fitness, have excellent communication skills, and always have an upbeat and positive attitude that motivates others.
If you only have a high school diploma and were unsure of where to start looking for work, try out one of the jobs on this list. They all allow you to earn high wages and make a career for yourself even without a college degree.
